Visit Warsaw
Warsaw is a city with layers of incredible history. If you want to know it and find its unexpected beauty, join me for the sightseeing. I would like to take you off the beaten tracks. My point is to explain the city. After my tours you will understand its language, you will catch its feeling. I believe that knowing the background is essential, because we can only appreciate Warsaw if we understand it. The Polish capital is a place where we can witness the important moments of the history in the XX century. First, the independence of Poland, which brought Warsaw a big responsibility to be the real capital of a reborn country. Twenty years later the war destroyed almost everything, and it was also the moment when the communists took over. At the end of the century they lost the power and capitalism flourished all around. The story of our times is told by Warsaw architecture and layouts. Warsaw is surprising. The contrasts between the old and new, rebuilt and original create a unique “patchwork”. I can’t wait to show you my city.
About me
My name is Monika Michałek and I’ve been a Warsaw guide since 2010. I’m a traveller myself and I fancy discovering places and their hidden secrets. I love sharing stories with my tourists. My family is from here, so a lot of them are personal and family stories. My grandma witnessed the Warsaw Uprising and the post war reconstruction, her brother participated in it. I am passionate about Fine Arts, the history of art and the history of private life. I’m also a licensed guide in the Museum of the History of Polish Jews POLIN. I’m interested in the Jewish history, so following the Jewish traces in Warsaw is one of my favourite tours. I really enjoy working with children. I know a lot of legends and stories and have some prepared programs to delight kids and hard-to-impress teenagers.
Suggested tours
Contrasts of Warsaw – is a basic walking tour, which takes about 3,5 hours. We start in the city centre, discovering the modern face of the capital. It’s a good point to explain the architectonic “patchwork” we can see around. We don’t miss the Jewish places, and the most representative streets, like charming Krakowskie Przedmieście, full of palaces, churches, cafeterias and restaurants. The Old Town with the Royal Castle is also on our way. This tour shows you different faces of Warsaw and explains its incredible history. It includes the most important monuments as well. You will get the feeling of the city and never say Warsaw is boring.
Jewish Warsaw – is a 4 hours long walking tour which traces the Jewish footsteps. Before the World War II there were about 350 thousand Jews living in Warsaw. We will walk around the Muranów neighbourhood, built on the site of the leveled Jewish ghetto, trying to discover their non-existent world in nowadays city. We will admire street art and see how street art artists commemorate the history of the quarter. After such a walk we spend another two hours visiting the exhibition of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews POLIN. If you are especially interested in Jewish history, it’s the tour for you.
